The Benefits of Chamomile Herb

Chamomile herb has been used for many years for its potential health benefits. Both the Roman and German strains of chamomile have similar effects on the body, but German chamomile is most commonly found. Chamomile benefits are wide and varied, but the most well-known benefit is the calming effect it has. A chamomile supplement is used to combat anxiety, sleeplessness and an array of gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, gas and upset stomach. Chamomile tea is probably the most well-known form of the herb when used as a supplement. However, chamomile capsules, liquid extracts and tablets are also ingestible forms of the herb. It is also made into a cream or ointment and may also be made into a mouth rinse. There is no recommended dosage for chamomile herb, so it is important to follow any dosage recommendations that come on packages when using chamomile supplements. There have not been any ill effects found when taking chamomile for extended periods of time, so it is safe for long-term use.

Even though the side effects are practically nonexistent, it is still wise to consult with a doctor or healthcare practitioner before using chamomile as a health supplement. Chamomile herb may be used to treat conditions such as depression as well as prevent other conditions, but there is still a lack of scientific evidence to back these claims. Those who do decide to use the supplement need to proceed with care and caution.
